Yoga is a journey of the self through the self to the self
The Bhagavad Gita
Angelique Sandas
A lifelong student of movement and the unity of mind, body, and spirit
Angelique’s journey began in childhood with gymnastics and dance—her first languages of expression. Movement quickly became her way of exploring and communicating the inner world. She earned a B.A. in Dance from the University of Minnesota in 1999, where she was first introduced to yoga. In yoga, her relationship with movement evolved, becoming more than physical—it became a path of self-discovery and inner transformation.
In 2000, Angelique began studying meditation and deepened her asana practice. A few years later, she found her way into an Ashtanga class in Chicago—and something clicked. Moved by the depth and discipline of the practice, she felt called to teach. In 2003, she traveled to Thailand to study with Paul Dallaghan and received her first teaching certification in the Ashtanga yoga method as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Her training expanded over the years to include pranayama and yogic philosophy with Sri O.P. Tiwari of Kaivalyadhama Institute, advanced anatomy and adjustment training with David Keil, and a 300-hour certification with Greg Nardi of Ashtanga Yoga Worldwide.
A guide for connection and self-inquiry
After teaching in Chicago, Angelique traveled to Mysore, India, in 2007 to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois. There, she also met Kino MacGregor, who would become a long-term mentor and friend. She later moved to Miami Beach to work and study closely with Kino, Tim Feldmann, and Greg Nardi at Miami Life Center, immersing herself in traditional practice and study from 2007 to 2012.
Angelique has returned to India multiple times since, continuing her studies in Mysore. In 2011, she received Authorization to teach from Paramaguru R. Sharath Jois. Her years of practice have included a broad spectrum of studies—Ashtanga, pranayama, chanting, Sanskrit, philosophy, meditation, and anatomy—each adding depth to her approach.
Life has unfolded alongside her practice. Becoming a mother to two spirited boys has offered new insights into compassion, resilience, and presence. Yoga continues to be her grounding force—a source of strength, healing, and inspiration. She feels deeply committed to sharing these gifts with others.
A mentor for teachers, rooted in tradition and open to evolution
In recent years, Angelique has turned her focus toward mentoring yoga teachers. As the Yoga Director of a studio in West Palm Beach, she worked closely with teaching staff to support their growth in skill, confidence, and authenticity. She has contributed to numerous teacher training programs and developed continuing education offerings, always with the aim of honoring the historical and cultural roots of yoga while supporting the development of each teacher’s unique voice. Her own evolution has been shaped by generous and wise mentors, and she is honored to pay that support forward.
Beyond the mat: a path of integration and healing
Angelique’s passion for learning continues to expand. In 2023, she began formal studies in herbalism with Rosemary Gladstar, exploring the healing wisdom of plants and the natural world. She also returned to school, and in 2025 earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Mental and Behavioral Health from Florida Atlantic University.
Angelique believes in the power of integration—that true well-being arises when all parts of the self are engaged in the healing process. The mind, body, and spirit are not separate; they move and evolve together. Through the weaving of movement, breath, nutrition, plant medicine, and spiritual practice, she supports others in their own journeys toward healing, growth, and transformation.
